Mao Zedong Dictator
![]()
Mao Zedong was a political leader who led the Communist Party of China to victory in the Chinese Civil War, leading to the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. Supporters within China consider Mao as a successful military and political leader who led the rise of 20th Century China. He instigated several major socio-political programs seeking to achieve, by means of his political philosophy, the ideal of a strong, prosperous and socially egalitarian China. These programs, however, were widely regarded as failures and Mao has been blamed with the deaths of between 20 and 67 million of his countrymen. The resulting anarchy, terror, and paralysis completely disrupted the urban economy, industrial production for 1968 dipped 12 percent below that of 1966, and led to the destruction of much of China's cultural heritage and the imprisonment of a huge number of Chinese intellectuals.?
