Homer Simpson is a popular cartoon character along with the rest of his family and is known especially for his annoyed grunt "D'oh!", which has been included in the Oxford English Dictionary. Homer embodies several American working class stereotypes. He is crude, overweight, incompetent, intolerant, clumsy, thoughtless and a borderline alcoholic. Despite his apparent blue-collar status, he has had a number of remarkable experiences. And although he is gluttonous, lazy and often simple-minded, he has displayed flashes of brilliance and an integrity reflecting his own values. Partly due to these contradictory attributes, Homer is considered by many to be the greatest comic creation of modern times.
