Elizabeth Bathory Serial Killer
![]()
Countess Elizabeth Bathory was a Hungarian countess who lived in the in present-day Slovakia, relative of the king of Poland and prince of Transylvania, Stefan Batory. She is considered the most infamous serial killer in Slovak and Hungarian history. She spent most of her life at her home the Cachtice Castle. After her husband's death, she and her four alleged collaborators were accused of torturing and killing numerous girls and young women. Over 300 eye-witness reports accused Bathory of severe beatings over extended periods of time, burning or mutilation of hands, sometimes also of faces and genitalia, biting the flesh off the faces, arms and other bodily parts, and the freezing to death or starving of victims. Her nobility allowed her to avoid trial and execution, instead leading to her being confined to house arrest for the remainder of her life. However, three of her four alleged collaborators were put to death.
